War Memorials!!!!

This week we started to discuss the War Memorials of the United States of America. We are focusing on 9 memorials:

1. Korean War Memorial
2. Vietnam War Memorial
3. WWII Memorial
4. USS Arizona Memorial
5. Pear Harbor Memorial
6. Liberty Memorial
7. National Memorial Arch
8. Arlington War Cemetery
9. National D-Day Memorial.

The students are participating in the Social Studies Weekly Five Stations to complete activities to learn more about these War Memorials.

Students, please tell me One thing that you were surprised about on ONE of the War Memorials

Sentence Starter: One thing that surprised me about _________________ was.....

For Example: One thing that surprised me about the Pearl Harbor Memorial was learning about the attack and the 8 of the United States battleships were damaged.

one thing that surprised me about was that i did not know that there was a wall that has names on it and that they have soldiers that are built who thought for the fight and they did alot of things for us and they will always fight for us nomater what happens but how many soldiers fought for the fight?do some of them live still?how many people fight for a war?can you please tell all the questions i ask can you answer them for me please. sincerly, alexis alvarez :) <3

I will work on those questions thank you for asking! Could you try googling those questions: how many soldiers fought in the Vietnam war? How many names are on the memorial wall? Maybe you can find the answers yourself! That would surprise me.

Yes. That day was horrible for a lot of people. It's very hard to watch and see what happened...if you get a chance to see videos or the movie. But ask your parents first before watching any videos.

One thing that surprised me about was that i did not know about all the wars that we had and one big thing that surprised me is about the korean war was that the people who died all of the names of them are in a big wall and that there are statues of them.

We have been in a lot of wars but those wars have made our country stringer and our people...Americans proud of how far we've come. Although we are still going through a war now....it's hard for families with loved ones over there in the middle east.

Yes. The Hiroshima and Nagaski bombing were a part of the war. Those bombs, in my opinion, did some horrible destruction and a lot of innocent people did lose their lives. It's been very controversial.

Yes. If you stand next to it you will see a reflection...you can google pictures of it....some are really inspiring and beautiful. It was one of my favorite memorials to see.

One thing that surprised me about the arlington war cemetary is that most of the people who died in the wars are burried there.

Yes! I really wish I could have gone there. It's still used today and some of the soldiers in the Afghanistan and Iraq war are buried there. Very historical place.
